Foreign trade and intermodal logistics continue to play a pivotal role as drivers of economic growth, operating within an environment that increasingly demands efficiency, resilience, and a strong commitment to sustainability. Ports are no longer just points of transit; they are strategic hubs that must integrate advanced technology, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence. In this context, SSA Marine Mexico has reinforced its leadership position by implementing a comprehensive strategy focused on investment, innovation, and sustainable practices. Through targeted capital investments, the incorporation of advanced operational technologies, and the adoption of responsible environmental initiatives, SSA Marine Mexico has optimized its terminal performance across the country’s key ports. These efforts have allowed the company not only to improve operational efficiency and reduce environmental impact but also to strengthen the competitiveness of its customers, ensuring smoother, faster, and more reliable supply chain operations. Manzanillo: Setting the Standard in Efficiency and Sustainability SSA’s Specialized Container Terminal I (TEC I), located in the port of Manzanillo, Colima, has established itself as a benchmark for port innovation and environmental management at both national and regional levels. As one of the busiest ports in Mexico, Manzanillo requires continuous improvement in infrastructure and processes to meet growing demand while maintaining high environmental standards. TEC I reached a significant milestone during the 18th edition of the GreenTech environmental conference by becoming the first port terminal in Mexico and Latin America to earn the internationally recognized Green Marine certification. This voluntary environmental program is the most important of its kind in North America, promoting measurable and verifiable improvements in environmental performance within the maritime industry. The certification was awarded following a rigorous evaluation process that assessed multiple performance indicators, including energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emission reduction, responsible waste management, ecosystem protection, and sustainable resource use. Achieving this certification not only represents a major recognition but also reinforces TEC I’s long-term commitment to continuous improvement and adherence to the highest environmental standards. As part of its modernization efforts, TEC I also incorporated two new Super Post-Panamax cranes, representing an investment exceeding USD 21 million. These cranes, with a lifting capacity of up to 65 tons under spreader and up to 80 tons under hook, are designed to handle next-generation vessels that exceed the dimensions of the original Panama Canal. Their addition significantly enhances operational capacity, allowing for more efficient loading and unloading of containers, reducing vessel turnaround times, and contributing indirectly to sustainability by minimizing the time ships spend at berth. <span class="joc_admin__inline-image joc_admin__inline-image-aspect-ratio-3_2 joc_admin__inline-image-position-left joc_admin__inline-image-size-medium" data-figure-size="medium" data-figure-position="left" data-figure-aspect-ratio="3:2"><img src="/content-assets/1779296115397_1.jpg" alt="" class="joc_admin__inline-image-inherit"> Tuxpan: Advancing Toward Energy Efficiency and Electrification At its Tuxpan terminal, SSA Marine Mexico has taken important steps toward building a more sustainable and energy-efficient operation. One of the key initiatives implemented during 2025 was the gradual transition to LED lighting technology in selected high-mast towers used to illuminate large operational areas within the terminal. The replacement of traditional incandescent lighting with LED systems represents a substantial improvement in terms of energy consumption and operational performance. LED lighting significantly reduces electricity usage while providing brighter, more uniform illumination, improving visibility across work areas. This enhancement not only increases operational efficiency but also contributes to improved safety conditions for personnel working in the terminal. At the same time, it aligns with the company’s broader sustainability objectives by reducing its overall carbon footprint. In addition to lighting improvements, the terminal has begun preparing for the future of electric port operations through the installation of electric charging stations in the roll-on/roll-off (Ro/Ro) area. These charging units are designed to support electric and hybrid vehicles and equipment used in cargo handling activities. The implementation of this infrastructure reduces dependence on fossil fuels and supports the transition toward cleaner energy sources. Moreover, these upgrades ensure that the terminal is ready to meet increasing operational demands while maintaining continuity and efficiency. As the maritime and logistics industries continue moving toward electrification, SSA Marine Mexico’s proactive approach positions the Tuxpan terminal as a forward-looking facility prepared to adapt to emerging operational and environmental requirements. Lazaro Cardenas: Expanding Automotive Logistics Capacity In Lazaro Cardenas, Michoacan, SSA Marine Mexico has further strengthened its capabilities in vehicle handling through the expansion of its Specialized Automotive Terminal (TEA). This expansion covers an area of approximately 394,000 square feet. This development represents a strategic step in increasing the terminal’s operational capacity. The expansion allows for an additional capacity of 1,500 vehicles, improving overall efficiency in cargo handling and yard management. This project required an investment of approximately USD 2.71 million, reflecting the company’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and continuously enhancing its logistics services. Complementing this development, SSA Marine Mexico also enabled an external yard, just 1.55 miles from the port. Covering approximately 1.13 million square feet, this facility has a capacity for 4,918 vehicles and operates as a distribution center equipped with 15 loading bays for car carriers. This additional infrastructure plays a key role in optimizing operations by freeing up space within the main terminal while facilitating better vehicle flow and inventory management. With an investment of approximately USD 7.13 million, this project further consolidates SSA Marine Mexico’s position as a leader in automotive logistics. The integration of expanded terminal capacity and auxiliary facilities enables the company to respond more efficiently to growing demand while maintaining high standards of service, safety, and operational performance. <span class="joc_admin__inline-image joc_admin__inline-image-aspect-ratio-3_2 joc_admin__inline-image-position-left joc_admin__inline-image-size-medium" data-figure-size="medium" data-figure-position="left" data-figure-aspect-ratio="3:2"><img src="/content-assets/1779296244029_2.jpg" alt="" class="joc_admin__inline-image-inherit"> Driving a Sustainable and Competitive Future Across all its operations, SSA Marine Mexico continues to demonstrate a clear commitment to combining efficiency with sustainability.
